Balance Art Fashion

Fashion Street:

"We’ve reached the final stage of the four-month-long art competition series jointly organized by Fashion Street Gallery and ArtHungry: the winner of the painting competition is Anita Papp.

The final round of the art competition series by Fashion Street Gallery and ArtHungry has concluded. This time, entries from painters were invited under the theme “Balance. Harmony. Unity.”

József Szurcsik, a Munkácsy Mihály Award-winning painter and graphic artist, provided the jury’s reasoning:
“Anita Papp turns her subjective visual observations inward. Her monochromatic paintings depict details of her body and face from unique optical perspectives. Like investigative funhouse mirrors, her extraordinary compositions uncover a consistent, exploratory self-portrait series. The dynamic interplay of personal and objective truths builds into a harmonious, inseparable unity on her paintings, poetically narrating dreamlike stories.”

Winner of the Painting Competition: Anita Papp

After a thorough review of the submissions and based on the competition’s criteria—originality, high professional execution, and the refined presentation of the artworks—the jury selected Anita Papp's submission. The organizers sought creators with a fresh perspective and creative approach, capable of offering new directions in the Hungarian art scene.

An excerpt from her artist statement reads:
“In my work, I aim to explore themes of nostalgia, loneliness, anxiety, and alienation, juxtaposed with fragile beauty, striving to find balance between beauty and the grotesque. I continuously work within the realms of painting and photography, often combining the two in various ways. My creative process starts with a photo series that serves as inspiration. I enjoy experimenting with reflective and mirror-like materials, frequently using copper chrome plates, which I can bend to distort the reflected faces.”

Exhibition Opening: 2024. June 13. at Deák Palace
